Good Morning, Spring!

March 20, 2013

Well, hello, Spring! The temperatures still have a little ways to go but MDI has a serious case of spring fever. We want to serve up some lemonade and catch a good sunset. We are easily distracted by the colors, freshness and spring cleaning that comes along with this particular turn of the seasons. Take a look around your house and pick one project for the spring. Big or small. It doesn’t matter! You’ll be thrilled to embrace spring with a little sunshine and newness. To get your wheels turning, here are some of our favorite ideas…

potted grass, charleston interior design ideas

Perhaps the most economical accent, plant some grass and put it on your dining room table, your entry console, your bedroom dresser. The pop of green and new life will do you some good.

pillows by missoni

If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a million times. Pillows are the quickest way to change things up. And it’s not permanent. You can bring the others back out in a year and they’ll feel new again.

flip flop art

Switch up your art in favor of a little whimsy. Don’t take everything too seriously. It can be nice to relax every once and a while.

colorful lamp

Lamps are the second greatest way to change things up. Change your lamps and your pillows and your room is practically transformed!

More pillows….

iron side table

An accent table in a shocking color can provide a nice lower level lift to your room. Not all the fun has to happen in pillows and lamps. Think about letting one of your core elements provide the pop of color.

colorful picture frames

Update your picture frames! Updating your frames makes the same old pictures feel more impressive. Or better yet, add in some new images. Aging isn’t all bad when it comes with fun memories.

planters

Colorful planters! Inside and out, plant something. These colorful containers take gardening to the next level. A couple of our favorite spring flowers are the ranunculus and daffodil. They are a bit playful. Don’t you think?

lamp

Another colorful lamp…but this one is also oversized. It’s long low design adds an additional element of intrigue.

flat weave rugs

Flat weaves aren’t just popular. They are effective. Throw one down for an economical wave to jazz up your floor and lighting things up for the warmer months.

bed idea

Add a backdrop to your existing bed(s). This strong presence of color really takes a bedroom to the next level.

dining chairs

If you’re really bold, find a dynamite fabric and reupholster your host and hostess chairs. Updating the heads of your table will spice up your next dinner party.

slipcovered ottoman

Slipcover an existing ottoman or coffee table. You can still maintain the integrity of the one underneath but you will have a face lift in the meantime.

colorful side table

Another colorful side table to pop your neutral sofa. Bringing color to your accent tables also gives you colors to work with in your pillows. Or vice versa.

coral sofa

If you are the boldest of the bold, go ahead and put a colorful print on your sofa.  You’ll be spreading springtime cheer all year round.

Go for it!  Embrace spring!  And don’t forget to let us know if we can help…
