The MDI team sees each new project as an opportunity to bring life and design together.
Whether it is a family’s home or a commercial space, life happens in our spaces, even if just for a moment. Our ultimate goal is to reflect the lifestyle of the people who interact within your space. Our team often comes together to brainstorm a project. With our depth of creativity, our endless resources and the strength of our relationships, the end result is always original.
Margaret Donaldson, ASID
Founder + Principal
Margaret is a Charleston native who earned her degree in Interior Design at the University of Georgia before returning to her hometown. She has a passion for making homes functional and livable as well as beautiful. Margaret is NCIDQ certified and has been an interior designer for over 33 years. Her portfolio features projects that range from historic downtown properties to eclectic beach houses. When not designing for clients, Margaret enjoys collecting art and spending time with her family in their harbor front home in the Old Mount Pleasant.
Delta credits her skills to exposure to a variety of styles and designs. She loves creating spaces that feel welcoming - and have elements of surprise. Delta grew up in a Charleston home with a father in television broadcasting from whom she learned the importance of presentation and pulling it all together. After work, you’ll find Delta on her terrace enjoying a glass of wine with her husband, gardening or walking Sumter, her black lab.
Alexis Lee Wilks
Alexis is a Charleston native and earned her BFA in Interior Design at the Art Institute of Charleston. She is not afraid to think outside the box and often draws on her world travels and love of art (epecially Gaudi) for inspiration. Alexis has a love for commercial design and most recently put her heart and hustle into designing for The Quay at Bishop Gadsden. As a mom, she also has a knack for bringing family-inspired functionality to beautiful spaces. When not working or traveling, she enjoys spending time at the beach or on the boat who her husband and her young daughter and son.
Accounting + Business Manager
Elizabeth is a Charleston native and long-time childhood friend of Margaret's. She works with the design team on each project to ensure clients’ budgets are looked after and project timelines are met. Her favorite part of the process is watching the beautiful final product come to life after many tireless work hours from the MDI team. When not on the Peninsula, she splits her time between homes (and vegetable gardens) on Folly Beach and the Ace Basin. You might find that Elizabeth is always ready for lunch with the gals at the studio, can make a mean pimento cheese and loves to spoil Abby Donaldson.
Elisabeth Lyons Becker, Allied ASID
Elisabeth has a designer’s eye and a knack for detail. She orders, tracks, receives and inspects design elements for MDI’s projects and attributes her laser-like attention to detail to an internship in the accounting department of her dad’s office. Elisabeth earned her degree in Interior Design from Anderson University and soon after became NCIDQ certified. When she isn't working, you’ll find her in Waterfront Park or trying new restaurants with her husband and new baby girl!
This Metter, Georgia native graduated from Wofford with a degree in Business Economics. After graduation, she pursued a a second degree in Interior Design at the Art Institute of Charleston. Alex is a veteran MDI intern who worked her way up to taking her own projects for the company. Her designs are inspired by her passion for art and the outdoors. She loves to recharge by listening to music, running and painting. You might also see her eating a Soba salad from Verde, one of MDI's favorite lunch spots!
Katelynn Bacher Rowe
Web + Marketing
Katelynn is a former office assistant whose main goal was keeping everyone organized at MDI. She now works with the team remotely from her new home in California. You'll find her answering your emails in regards to the website, marketing, advertising, publication or other special projects around the studio. No job is too big or detail too small for this event planner who graduated with a degree in Event Management from the University of Central Florida. She now enjoys her visits back "home" to Charleston, eating Callie's Hot Little Biscuits (with Savory Thyme butter, of course!) or relaxing on her weekends off with her husband.
As a puppy, Abby grew up in a playpen in Margaret’s office and now spends her days greeting clients, manufacturers’ representatives and the deliverymen. In addition to product testing, Abby makes sure the team remembers to design dog-friendly interiors. She also enjoys nibbling baby carrots and writing the occasional blog post.
