MDI is proud to announce that we received two 2023 ASID Awards: a Silver Award for a Residential New Construction and a Silver Award for a Residential Renovation.

In the world of interior design, the American Society of Interior Design (ASID) has been a leading source of community and inspiration since its founding in 1975. Every year, talented interior designers are recognized for their ability to overcome challenges and meet clients’ needs with the annual ASID Excellence in Design Awards.

Kiawah Living

Silver- Residential New Construction over 3,500 sf

The primary goal for this Kiawah residence was to create a versatile and liveable space that is cozy for the homeowners, but also comfortable for the extended family to gather. We used performance fabrics and stain treated as much as possible to make it truly liveable. The first floor follows an open floor plan with a large dining room that overlooks both the living room and kitchen. We included a two-person breakfast table to accommodate the homeowners when it’s just them at home. The scullery kitchen and organized workspace in the primary kitchen allows the client to be able to cook without disruption to the workflow. We also carved out a space off of the den for the client’s home office. The four guest rooms, expansive outdoor areas on both floors, and upstairs den with hideaway bunks provide ample space for guests to gather both together and separately. 

Ocean Estate

Silver- Residential Renovation over 3,500 sf

For this project, we were tasked with renovating a large villa into a primary residence for a recently retired couple. The ultimate goal was to completely transform the large space into an open, comfortable, and clean home to fit the client’s specific needs and love for entertaining. Luckily, we were able to participate in the entire project from the very beginning. We worked closely with the architect to reconfigure the floor plan and replace the plaster walls with refined wood paneling. The client’s original art collection influenced much of the space, along with pieces purchased or commissioned specifically for the home. The second floor houses three bedrooms and a public space for guests, while the third floor is dedicated to the primary suite. The end result is a complete transformation that is both elegant and relaxed.
