From the Tap Podcast, produced by the editors of Kitchen & Bath Business magazine, hosts leading experts in the kitchen and bath design industry. In June, they spoke with Margaret all about building a design legacy for Episode 77: The Art of Building a Legacy Brand with Margaret Donaldson. Throughout the episode, Margaret emphasized the importance of relationships in building a legacy.

“Your clients are everything. They really want to have an experience with you.”

Interior design is about so much more than creating a beautiful space. Because each client’s vision is so unique, Margaret prides herself on not having one particular style of design. Instead, we take principles of good design and apply them to our clients’ visions. It is also crucial that the home supports the lifestyle and needs of the client. At MDI Luxury Design, we take the time to really get to know our clients. Family, hosting style, hobbies, how they live their daily lives- no stone is left unturned. We truly become like family to our clients.

Equally important to our client relationships are our relationships with vendors, contractors, subcontractors, builders, and the teams that we work with. We maintain those supportive relationships through respectful interactions, timely and reliable communication, and sharing positive client experiences. When possible, Margaret encourages the team to work with local craftsman and vendors. Creating a custom space with its own story to tell strengthens our relationship with both our clients and our vendors.

Rebranding to keep up with the times is often a crucial step in building a legacy brand. In case you missed it, catch up with our 2024 rebrand here! Margaret made a very deliberate decision to remove her name from the business name, transitioning from Margaret Donaldson Interiors to MDI Luxury Design, in order to support the ever-growing firm and the talented team!

This is Margaret’s second 2024 podcast feature focused on creating strong relationships to support a legacy interior design firm. Check out her Design Biz Survival Guide feature!
