Award-winning Bedrooms
December 19, 2019
Recently the MDI team won a 1st place ASID award for our ION Eclectic project, and today we’re showing you the gorgeous bedrooms.
Master Bedroom
The master bedroom features a restrained feminine palette of blush pink and layered neutrals. We dressed the window wall in a blush and cream linen with a chinoiserie print, but for the windows on the bed wall, we utilized simple shutters to allow space for the four-poster bed. The silk and bamboo blend rug adds to the luxurious feeling of the room.
Our client wanted her room to feel feminine and luxurious without feeling adolescent or prissy. We mixed warm woods and added layers of texture and interest in the bedding to help achieve the desired tone. The bedding is a mix of premade and bespoke pillows to achieve the balance of luxurious but lived in.
The master bath boasts excellent natural light. We added a quirky oversized chandelier and accessories to the space to add the client’s personality.
The vanity area of the master bath is simple and refined. We updated the lighting with funky linear fixtures in a nickel finish.
Guest Rooms
One of three well-appointed guest bedrooms, this room was designed around the client’s heirloom bed. We wanted the bedroom to feel harmonious with the rest of the home and, as such, paired the antique bed with clean-lined, simple bedside tables, simple sculptural lamps, and luxurious bedding in a pale aqua marble print.
The draperies in this bedroom are bespoke linen panels with a light aqua ombre, which plays well with both the traditional and modern elements of the room. Space did not allow for a full armchair, so we instead included a small side chair with a conventional quatrefoil back and unexpected grey sheepskin seat upholstery.
The rug selected for this space features traditional motifs set at an exaggerated scale to juxtapose again modern and traditional. The bright aqua lacquered chest is a surprising counterpoint to the antique bed.
This Jack and Jill bath takes full advantage of the space allocated to it with two vanities separated by a window seat covered by a colorful bespoke cushion. A subtle nod to the home’s seaside location, the pendant lights feature sea glass beads. The colorful runner bridges the color stories of the adjoining bedrooms.
Possibly the boldest space in the home is this aqua and magenta room featuring layers of textures in bold hues to create a truly luxurious space. Since including a king-sized bed was essential to the client, we had to work around covering a portion of two of the windows with the headboard. We tackled this obstacle head-on by going big and bold with the modern four-poster bed.
The windows were treated as one unit with shutters providing light control and a single stationary panel hanging on the far side of the window. We used one very long rod that spans across both windows and the bed to emphasis the thought and intention put into the room’s design.
A commissioned piece by a local artist fits perfectly in the room nestled above an eye-catching sculptural accent chair upholstered in aqua velvet.
The black lacquered chest adds a layer of sophistication and helps ground the room. Brass elements are repeated in the details tying into the accents in other parts of the home.
The final guest room, a suite complete with mini kitchenette, features a soothing and soft palette. We mixed painted and stained wood with luxurious textiles to create a room that is an elegant escape.
The upholstered king bed is dressed in crisp white linens with blue accents. The drapery panels feature beautiful embroidery of blues on a white linen ground. The bedside tables were selected for their small scale, allowing us to fit a king bed.
The other side of the guest suite houses a relaxed seating area. The coco bead chandelier draws your eye up to appreciate the architecture of the space. This guest suite is used by the homeowner’s parents during their frequent visits, so it was designed with their needs and preferences in mind.
Next time we’ll be taking you outside to the incredible courtyard with a saltwater pool so stick around for more this incredible and fun Ion home.
