MDI Featured in Charleston Style & Design Magazine
February 1, 2023
We are so proud of this feature in Charleston Style & Design magazine’s winter issue!Â
This Kiawah home was a new build, so MDI was able to work closely with the builder and architect throughout the entire project, resulting in a cohesiveness between the build and the design.
The homeowners wanted a modern home with a rustic feel for their children and grandchildren to gather for vacations and holidays. Their vision was sophisticated, yet casual, with farmhouse touches. We achieved this goal with lots of light colors, layered textures, and clean lines. We enhanced the look with natural light through large windows.
The first floor boasts a kitchen with two islands, dining room, sitting room, and master bedroom. The design team was challenged with choosing light fixtures for the kitchen and living room that would not compete with the homeowners’ chosen light fixture for the dining room. All three can be seen at the same time, so we had to be careful to choose fixtures that would complement each other.
The first landing features a comfortable bunk room. Each of the four sets of built-in bunks is equipped with its own reading light and individual outlet.Â
Built into the second landing is a cozy reading nook complete with a bookcase, built-in storage benches, and lots of pillows. This makes for the perfect space to escape into a good book!
The second floor includes a media room with large sectional, bar, and TV, as well as a game room with a puzzle table and storage cabinets. The three guest bedrooms are also upstairs, each with its own unique style and en suite bathroom.
We are thrilled that Charleston Style & Design enjoyed this project as much as we did. If you haven’t gotten your hands on a copy yet, you can view the feature here!
