Home Tour: Refined Retreat

August 9, 2018

Today we’re excited to give you a home tour of one of our recent interior design projects in Charleston, South Carolina: A beautiful, refined retreat:

In preparation for upcoming retirement, our clients relocated from their Charlotte, NC home to a custom built Lowcountry island home. Two dogs retired to the beach along with their family, so pet-friendly fabrics and rugs were a must.

Starting our home tour in the foyer and front hall, this area features a combination of tile and wood flooring for a dramatic and easy-to-care-for statement. The console table was custom made by a local craftsman using exotic veneers and domestic hardwoods.

The living room was laid out to create space for the client’s beloved grand piano. A wool rug and indoor /outdoor upholstery fabrics make the space easy to care for and pet friendly.

Directly adjacent to the living room is the dining room. A punch of color was added to this space through the artwork and upholstery fabric.

The large chef’s kitchen provides ample storage for the homeowners cooking equipment and serving ware.

The unexpected color changing vanity top in the powder room adds a touch excitement to the space.

The client wanted a small office nook on the main floor. Tucked into a nook leading to the laundry and mudroom, her desk with its animal print parson’s chair is the perfect space. The door leading to this utility area is a Dutch door so that the dogs can be corralled when needed.

The master bedroom has a soft aqua palette that perfectly complements the marsh views and pool. Custom draperies and roman shades add softness to the large space as well as light control and privacy.

The large master bath is an oasis of luxury with its large soaking tub, rain head shower, and his and hers vanities. The striated tile paired with the clean lines of the tub gives the space a more modern feel.

Taking the home tour upstairs is the multi-use game room which includes a sleeper sofa for overflow guests, a full bar, as well as a game table. We utilized two smaller ottomans in front of the sofa to allow for ease of access to the sleep sofa.

The guesthouse features colorful café curtains paired with neutral walls. The sofa has a queen pull out mattress that enables the extra space to sleep six.

The guesthouse also features a compact, but beautiful, kitchen.
