Home Tour: Relaxed River View on Kiawah Island

July 28, 2017

The Kiawah River was the focal point for this relaxed family getaway on Kiawah Island. There are sweeping marsh views from every room, and we incorporated plenty of the homeowner’s favorite colors: blue.

In the living room,  grey chairs and a creamy white sofa with pops of blue highlight the winding river view outside. We kept all the accents neutral, including the natural stone fireplace. The tall wainscoting around the room is a nod to traditional Charleston décor.

Dark wood flooring throughout the ground floor helps anchor the light blues and whites. Blue Bahia granite in the kitchen echoes the river outside, while substantial wrought iron light fixtures provide visual weight to a sleek dining set.

The kitchen is a wonderful example of this year’s design trends. Appliances take a backseat while colorful cabinets take center stage. The mixed marble subway tile and hexagon backsplash add energy to this calm space, while a custom breakfast built-in for two makes the most of the work space.

The powder room is one of our best-loved spaces. The floor-to-ceiling map of the Charleston Harbor is a fun conversation piece, and a whimsical nod to the home’s location. Original art and a striking piece of found driftwood make this everyone’s surprise favorite room in the house.

Who wouldn’t want to be a guest in this bedroom? Stunning views of the marsh require everything else in the room reflect the unique colors of the Lowcountry sea and sky.

The master bath has uber-functional his-and-hers sinks (hers with a dressing table built in). The arched bathtub nook and the unique shower enclosure give this otherwise peaceful room plenty of personality.
