December 18, 2025
There’s something so special about the holidays in Charleston: mild coastal weather, historic cobblestone streets, and a calendar full of festive events make the Lowcountry feel straight out of a holiday storybook. From elegant decor to family-friendly events, the holiday season is just one more reason why we love to call the Lowcountry our home! Whether you’re visiting for a long weekend or soaking it all in as a local, here are some of the best ways to experience Charleston during the holidays.
Check Out all the Holiday Decor
Charleston knows how to accessorize, and the holidays are no exception!

Start with The Dewberry, where festive winter wonderland meets mid-century modern design. Each year, the hotel partners with a different iconic designer to transform The Living Room into a scene straight out of a movie. Be sure to check their calendar for fun events like their Santa Social and seasonal cocktails!
Next, take a walking tour of South of Broad. This neighborhood, most famous for Charleston’s iconic Rainbow Row, hosts some of Charleston’s most beautiful historic homes dressed to the nines for the holidays. Wreaths, garlands, gas lanterns, and cobblestone streets make this area feel extra special this time of year.

Don’t miss The Charleston Place! From Christmas trees and garlands to Nutcracker Tea, this hotel goes all out for the holidays. It’s one of the most festive spots in downtown Charleston and a must-see for visitors and locals alike.
Enjoy a Festive Cocktail at a Holiday Pop-Up Bar
Charleston’s cocktail scene is already iconic, and holiday pop-ups give it a fun seasonal makeover!
Little Palm transforms into festive Little Pine, complete with chocolate fondue, cozy ski huts, and fire pits. Complete with lights, Santa hats, and fun mugs, Bar Mash, aka Bar Mashmas, brings bold holiday spirit with themed drinks and playful decorations. Frannie’s Winter Courtyard is a festive seasonal village complete with yurts, fire pits, and shareable blankets.

Classic Holiday Events & Experiences
There’s no place like Charleston for the holidays, and the locals know all of the best traditions!
We love the European-inspired charm of the Charleston Christkindlmarkt, where you can find artisan gifts, festive treats, and warm drinks in an open-air market. If you love the theater, be sure to get tickets to A Christmas Carol at the Dock Street Theatre, where Charles Dickens is brought to life in one of the most historic theaters in the country. The Dock Street Theatre is especially near and dear to us, as we have helped up with some of their interior updates! The Holiday Festival of Lights on James Island is a fun, family-friendly local favorite, featuring themed displays culminating in a winter wonderland.

Coastal Holiday Moments
One of the best parts of spending the holidays in Charleston is the ability to enjoy the outdoors without the summer heat and crowds. Bundle up lightly and stroll along the beach at Kiawah Beachwalker Park or Isle of Palms. Bring a picnic breakfast and warm blanket to watch the sunrise or take a mid-day stroll. The quiet beaches feel serene during the holidays, perfect for long walks or quick reading breaks.

From glowing gas lanterns and garlands to festive pop-up events and quiet Kiawah beaches, the holidays in Charleston can’t be beat. Whether you’re sipping something seasonal, joining the hustle and bustle of shoppers, or walking barefoot on a secluded beach, the holidays are never short of that southern charm that is so undeniably Charleston.
