MDI Featured in Carolina Magazines
June 2, 2025

It’s always an honor to see our work featured, and we’re especially excited to share two recent highlights- one in Charlotte Magazine and one in Charleston Magazine. While each home is different and tells a different story, both were shaped by meaningful design goals and a deep collaboration with the homeowners. From a sentimental office redesign in Charlotte to a modern spin on a coastal retreat in Kiawah, we’re excited as always to share the behind the scenes of these projects!
A Charlotte Office With a Story- Featured in Charlotte Magazine, June 2025
When a long-standing client asked us to redesign her Charlotte home, she had a special request: to update her late husband’s office without erasing its essence. The goal was to soften up the space while preserving its connection to him.
To strike the balance, we left the original trim and wainscoting, but painted it in Benjamin Moore’s Sea Salt- a subtle, soothing color that lightens up the room. We swapped the green marble around the fireplace for a more neutral marble and installed a more sleek and modern chandelier. The blue-gray color palette is soft, refreshed, and balances some of the client’s darker antique pieces. The result is a space that honors the meaning behind the office while embracing a lighter, more feminine feel.
A Coastal Retreat Downsize- Featured in Charleston Magazine, May 2025
For a retired couple looking to downsize within their beloved Kiawah neighborhood, the vision for the new home was clear: a modern redesign to highlight their art collection while still feeling relaxed and welcoming. They wanted to start over in a home that would allow them to host their adult children and grandchildren, but was still comfortable when it’s just the two of them. Their previous home followed the neighborhood’s British Arts and Crafts style, but this time around they opted for a simpler, more streamlined look.
The primary goal was to showcase the couple’s beloved art without sacrificing the comforts of home. We focused on creating simple lines and maximizing natural light to bring warmth and softness to every room. The end result is a home that feels curated yet cozy, simple yet eclectic. Perfect for quiet days by the water or hosting children and grandchildren.
At MDI, our mission is always to create spaces that feel curated to each individual client. Whether you’re looking to redesign a home in the Lowcountry or you just need design inspiration, head over to our portfolio to see more feature-worthy homes!
