We’re thrilled to start 2025 off strong- with a feature in Charleston Style & Design’s Winter issue! The feature, appropriately titled “Tree House by the Sea,” features one of our recent favorite projects, a secondary Kiawah home.

The homeowners chose the Ocean Park community, known for its trees and natural environment, as a retreat from their busy lives. They knew they wanted the interior of the home to reflect the calming natural beauty of the Lowcountry, and that MDI was the perfect fit to make their vision come to life.

“I looked through design magazines and publications covering Charleston homes to see whose designs appealed to me, and MDI Luxury Design’s work really stood out,” says the homeowner.

Margaret and the homeowners ultimately decided on a reverse floor plan. The open-concept kitchen and living room are on the top floor of the home, truly embracing the surrounding treetop views.

Margaret says, “The architecture makes the home look like a tree house; it appears nestled in the surrounding trees.”

The Charleston Style & Design feature walks through Margaret’s design process- beginning with working with the homeowners to develop a color palette, then pulling in different fabrics and textures. For this home, the focus was on calming blues and greens, organic textures, sleek lines, and natural light. The mix of contemporary design and natural elements results in a style that feels simultaneously luxurious and natural.

Whether you’re looking to buy or renovate your home in the Lowcountry, or you’re searching for inspiration, be sure to check out our portfolio for more of this project and others!
