Please meet Heather Kates, who oversees all design projects as our Design Director here at MDI! Heather is from a small town in Illinois, but moved to Chicago to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design from Harrington College of Design.

Since then, Heather has lived in many different cities, including New York City, Columbus, Ohio, and Virginia Beach. While living in New York City, she worked with Jed Johnson Associates, designing several high-end residential projects in Manhattan and The Hamptons. 

Working Interior Design in several bigger cities has allowed Heather to build up an impressive portfolio of high-profile projects, including residential, hospitality, luxury yachts, country clubs, and multi-family projects. However, her true passion lies in creating personalized homes for clients and their families. “I most enjoy working on residential projects because they bring a high degree of personalization and fun,” she says.

We’re so grateful that Heather and her husband decided to move to Charleston to be closer to family. They enjoy spending time with their Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Boujee, and exploring everything Charleson has to offer, from the rich history and beaches to the world-class restaurants and cocktail lounges.
