Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikala Kuchera, a senior designer here at MDI. Mikala is from Florida and attended University of Florida for Journalism and Communications. After college, she ventured up to New York City, where she spent ten years working in the fashion and design industry. After an exciting career at Vogue, she decided to transition from fashion to interiors and pursued a degree in Interior Design from Parsons School of Design. Before moving to Charleston, she focused on hospitality design and worked on many cool projects around the world.

After the quick-paced way of life in New York City, Mikala was ready to move a bit closer to home. She has been living in Charleston for about a year and a half now. She loves the relaxed way of life, all of the great food and restaurants, and the beach. During quarantine she fixed up a little boat that she loves to take out on the water!

Mikala loves the personality of residential design and working with clients to help bring their visions to life. Her favorite thing about MDI is working with such a fun group of inspiring and talented women here at MDI. She also loves all of the dogs at MDI and even keeps a bag of treats on her desk. 

As a world traveler, Mikala has an eclectic taste that incorporates her travels and her experience in the fashion industry. She is meticulous, creative, and a team player. 

When she’s not working, she loves traveling, painting, reading, gardening, baking, and taking photos on her Contax T2 film camera.
