Spring Break in Charleston: Our Warm Weather Favorites!
April 24, 2025

Spring break in Charleston is nothing short of magical. The air is fragrant with blooms and cuisine, the azaleas are in full bloom, and everyone is outside enjoying the warm breeze. Whether you’re drawn to the area by the beaches, the history, or the food, Charleston offers a spring break that’s simultaneously relaxing and adventurous, with the perfect touch of charm.
Soak in the Color
The Holy City collectively wakes up in the spring. The historic district is bursting with color- from the pastel homes to the window boxes and gardens bursting with flowers. A stroll through South of Broad offers views of beautiful gardens peeking out from behind wrought iron gates. Be sure to stop by the iconic Rainbow Row! Finish your bloom peeking with a picnic at White Point Garden and the Battery, where you can enjoy views of Charleston Harbor, blooming azaleas, and massive sweeping live oaks- the epitome of southern charm!
Absorb the History
Spring’s milder temperatures make it an ideal time for history buffs to explore Charleston’s extensive history. On a rainy day, we highly recommended a visit the newly opened (2023) International African American Museum, followed by The Charleston Museum, America’s First Museum. They are less than a mile apart and can both easily be done in a day! Or take a walk through time by touring some of the preserved historical homes the Lowcountry is known for, such as the Nathaniel Russell House or Aiken-Rhett House. For some hands-on military history, check out Fort Sumter or Fort Moultrie, and definitely be sure to climb through the passageways of the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point!
Coastal Adventures
No trip to Charleston would be complete without at least one beach day! If you’re staying in Charleston, you have three nearby beach options. Sullivan’s Island offers laid-back vibes, fresh seafood options, and quiet, wide beaches. Explore the island on foot with a nature walk through the boardwalks, rent a bike to tour around the quiet streets and take in the beautiful homes, or relax on the beach and watch the kite surfers. If you opt for Sullivan’s Island, head to Shem Creek for dinner, where you can stroll the boardwalk and enjoy boat watching and dolphin scouting at a waterfront restaurant. Or head to Folly Beach for a less primitive option with more accommodations. Folly is a bit more crowded, upbeat, and funky, while maintaining a casual and family-friendly atmosphere. If you have golfers in the family, of course Kiawah is a wonderful option! Begin the day with a round of golf on one of the world-renowned courses, and end the day relaxing on the beach at Beachwalker Park.
Eat, Sip, Repeat
The Lowcountry food scene alone could fill your itinerary. Fresh seafood, classic Southern dishes, and cutting-edge menus are all on the agenda. Start with a delicious Southern breakfast at Vicious Biscuit, Poogan’s Porch, or Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit. Then stop for lunch at Leon’s or Taco Boy. Wrap up your restaurant tour with a dinner reservation at FIG, Husk, or The Ordinary. Take a break from all the delicious cuisine to enjoy some drinks at a rooftop bar like The Watch, The Vendue, or Citrus Club.
Whether you’re wandering down a quiet alleyway lined with pastel homes and colorful window boxes, toes in the sand watching the watersports, or diving into delicious Lowcountry cuisine, it is impossible to not enjoy with a Charleston spring break.
