Step Inside Margaret Donaldson’s Home via Charleston Style & Design

April 10, 2015

All of us at MDI are proud to show you the spread from this week’s Spring issue of Charleston Style and Design featuring Margaret Donaldson’s home in all its beautiful glory.

Situated in the historical Old Village in Mt Pleasant, Margaret’s home was built by her husband’s great grandfather in 1905. The home has had light renovation over time, but overall the design is a delightful combination of old and new.

Margaret is also a lover of art, especially locally created paintings. Edgar Allen Poe dominates the entry hall, a piece painted by Charleston’s John Carrole Doyle.

Margaret’s recently renovated kitchen is marvelously modern yet meaningful. It features a single tree slice wooden bar that maintains a living edge on both sides. which was built by local artisan Billy Compton. Her pantry doors were once the bedroom doors in a previous home, and the whitewashed pine floors were done by Charleston’s own Reclaimed Designworks.

The formal living room faces the harbor, and, like the rest of the house, is full of personal objects, both collected and inherited, that bring an incredible sense of history and interest to the space.

After all, Margaret has been known to be in full agreement with Suzanne Kasler’s aesthetic of curated design.

We love her blend of the past, present, and future, and we’re so glad the magazine did, too.
