It’s the most wonderful time of the year: Time for our annual list of our favorite coffee table books. The MDI team loves beautiful coffee table books because they’re inspiring, fun to give and get as gifts, and look great stacked up in a cozy living room or guest room. So – without further ado, here’s our 2018 list of favorite coffee table books:
With shorter daylight hours and a chill in the air, we get an almost irresistible urge to make some changes to our interior spaces that will sustain us until it’s beach weather again. Here are some of our favorite interior design trends for fall:
Today we’re excited to give you a home tour of one of our recent interior design projects in Charleston, South Carolina: A beautiful, refined retreat:
Crisp, sophisticated whites, grays, and indigos have dominated interior design trends in the last few years. While these combinations never go out of style, warm colors are making their way into Charleston interiors. Driven by the popularity of blush pinks and rose gold, we’re seeing the addition of toasty mustards, deeper shades of rose, terra cotta, rust, and even salmon (a perennial Charleston favorite).
Recently Margaret, Liz, Alex, Beth and Alexis had the opportunity to go to Chaddock College, a two-day immersive experience at the beautiful factory campus in Morganton, North Carolina.
Chaddock is an American furniture designer and manufacturer headquartered in Morganton, North Carolina. The company is well known for their customizable furniture designed by notables such as Larry Laslo, Mary McDonald and David Easton. They are perfectionists, and it shows in the quality of their work. (We’ll tell you more about that in our next blog post about the MDI team field trip to the factory.)
As much as we love Charleston, we believe that getting out of our comfort zones is the best way to find design inspiration. In February, MDI interior designer Alexis Wilks had a fantastic opportunity to travel through India and Nepal with family. Her stepfather founded an eye clinic in the area that serves the poor, and she was able to do a little humanitarian work as well as sightseeing.
We’ve put the finishing touches on our newly renovated and expanded design studio and we couldn’t be happier. Our studio is our home away from home. It’s where we develop relationships, create, dream, and get inspired. This larger space gives us plenty of room to spread out vision boards, meet with clients, and display one-of-a-kind treasures and favorite accessories. (Stay tuned for a post on our current favorite accessories!)
Houseplants are enjoying a massive resurgence in interior design, and rightly so.
