When the homeowners first set foot on their Kiawah Island oceanside property, they joyfully stood with their arms outstretched. “We want the house to be open to the ocean,” they said. “We love to host our family and friends that are spread out all over the country. We also want a home where they’ll feel welcome,” they said.Read More
In Charleston, interior design coffee table books are more than just decoration. A beautiful photo book is the perfect companion for a slow afternoon in the bed swing with a pile of pillows and a glass of sweet tea. Inspiring coffee table books are also good places to get inspiration when you want to refresh your interiors just a little.
A Charleston home and the next generation of performance fabric is a match made in heaven. You might remember the earlier versions of ultra-durable fabrics: Scratchy, stiff, and not at all nice to touch. However, they were a necessary evil in industrial office spaces, hospitals, and beach rentals. Lucky for us Lowcountry dwellers, things have drastically changed. Read More
With a new season comes the urge to refresh interior spaces to match. In winter, we bring warmth to chilly Charleston days with plenty of layers and soft, nubby textiles. In summer, we want summer textiles that are light, bright, fun, and crisp.

Behind the best interior designers in Charleston are the best dog helpers. At Margaret Donaldson Interiors, we love our dogs (and our clients’ dogs) so much that we have a dog-friendly studio. Of course you’ve met Margaret’s now famous furry-friend, Abby, and recently we wrote about Alex’s Labradoodle, Willow. There’s another important member of the team to introduce – please meet Rosie.
It’s no secret that Margaret Donaldson Interiors loves dogs. Did you know that more than half the households in Charleston, SC have at least one dog? It’s just one more thing that makes our city the best. Since her Houzz feature, Abby has been hogging the attention around the office, so we thought we’d introduce you to another of our fuzzy mascots, Willow.
The “Sip & See” is MDI tradition. When one of our designers finishes a project, we cater a wine and cheese open house so the rest of our team can see the finished home and celebrate with the homeowners. It also allows Elizabeth, our accounting and business manager to get out of the office for once!
