2015 Pantone Color of the Year: Marsala
What do you think of 2015 Pantone Color of the Year ‘Marsala’? Margaret talks to Charleston’s Post and Courier about how to use it and whether or not we’ll see it in Charleston decor this year. Read the article by Ann Thrash:
Just as national opinions about Marsala cover the spectrum, local opinions vary as well. “I have to say, it reminds me a little bit of the mauve color that was so popular in the early ’80s,” says longtime Lowcountry interior designer Margaret Donaldson, ASID, of Margaret Donaldson Interiors. “This color appears to be a little deeper and richer, which makes it a bit more redeeming, but not much.”
Donaldson says that in her experience, Color of the Year trends don’t often have an immediate impact on interior design. “It usually takes several years for these ‘Colors of the Year’ to work their way through fashion and then eventually into home design,” she says.
While she hasn’t had any clients asking about Marsala or how to incorporate it into their home, she does have a few suggestions for adding some touches of the color.
“If I were going to use it in an interior, I would not use it on a wall, but rather as an accent color. I think it would be pretty with grays and also with a warm golden yellow.”
But, she adds, “Honestly, I don’t anticipate seeing it in interiors in Charleston in the near future.”
