We’re excited to share that MDI received six ASID Excellence in Design Awards at the ASID Carolinas fall conference this year- a true honor and evidence of our commitment to the work we love doing every day. 

Since 1975, the American Society of Interior Designers has brought together industry experts who are passionate about creating meaningful, beautiful spaces. Each year, the ASID Carolinas chapter holds a conference celebrating design excellence and awarding top designers in various categories. This year, our team was recognized with a Gold Award for Outdoor Space, Silver Award for Kitchen Design, Silver Award for Bath Design, Silver Award for Townhouse or Condominium, Bronze Award for Residence Large New Construction, and Bronze Award for Residence Large Renovation.

Gold- Outdoor Space

This outdoor space is a true extension of the home- warm, inviting, highlighting the natural views, and deeply personal to the clients. Bold pops of orange pay homage to the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, a nod to the years they spent in San Francisco. A large swinging “nest” adds a playful seating space, while floor-to-ceiling pocket doors create a seamless transition to the outdoors. 

Silver- Kitchen 

This stunning kitchen draws inspiration from the natural beauty of the Lowcountry marsh with a warm, welcoming feel. The striking stone slab that runs up the wall creates a natural focal point that highlights the natural views through the picture windows. Wood elements and textural glass pendants bring softness, while a cozy breakfast nook offers more beautiful views. The custom plaster range hood mirrors the custom plaster fireplace in the dining room, reinforcing the home’s cohesive design.

Silver- Bath

In this bathroom oasis, the large picture window anchors the freestanding tub, allowing the views to steal the show. Thoughtfully planned “his” and “hers” sides offer balance and functionality, creating a space that feels both luxurious and personal.

Silver- Townhouse or Condominium

This townhome serves as a second home and personal retreat for these clients. The top-floor living space sets it apart. Large windows offering higher level views of the surrounding trees give it more of a treehouse feel. Layering natural materials with pops of color and texture create an elevated welcoming environment- a perfect space for relaxation!

Bronze- Residence New Construction Large >3500

This family retreat is the definition of “natural aesthetic.” A palette of warm neutrals and lighter wood tones, accented with soft greens and lavenders brings a calming, layered feel throughout the home. 

Bronze- Residence Renovation Large >3500

The goal of this renovation for this longtime client was to transition a darker, more traditional home into a lighter, airy, and contemporary space. We kept some of the natural wood, while balancing it with a lighter neutral palette. The result is a space that feels both bright and timeless.
