Last year we shared our team’s favorite interiors for Netflix shows. Today we’re sharing the team’s favorite movies, shows, and documentaries to help you get through our safe-at-home time:
Out and About
Chaddock College 2020
Earlier this month Arden, Lily, and Ryan attended Chaddock College, a two-day immersive experience at the factory campus in Morgantown, North Carolina. This experience allows designers to see how Chaddock furniture is made and upholstered, and we love it when our MDI designers get to attend.
Favorite Natural Décor
Every year the Southeaster Wildlife Exposition brings a three-day celebration of wildlife and all things natural to Charleston. Each February, our city is full of visitors attracted to SEWE’s educational conservation programs, social events, sporting demonstrations, and fine art fairs. In honor of SEWE this weekend, we’re reminiscing about some of our favorite natural motifs in past projects.
Chicago Merchandise Mart
As we start planning our inspiration and shopping trips for the year, we’re reminded of this fun trip from the fall when some of the MDI team went to the Merchandise Mart (a.k.a. theMart or The Mart) in Chicago. Â
Vendue Renovation
Today we’re giving you a behind-the-scenes peek at one of our famous Sip & Sees from a recent renovation on Vendue! When we finish a design project, we cater a nice spread and invite the rest of our team to meet the clients and see the finished space. Because we’re all working on different projects at once, this gives our team time to be inspired.
Meet Designing Dog Mabel
We are so happy to add another furry friend to our designing dog pack at MDI. Mabel is a Saint Bernedoodle – a Saint Bernard / Poodle mix who recently joined Arden McKenzie’s family.
MDI Takes a Cooking Class
Last month the MDI team, plus builder Phillip Smith and his wife, took a private cooking class with Chef Bob Waggoner courtesy of Colleen George and Sub Zero/Wolf. Chef Bob is known for his Lowcountry / French fusion cuisine using local and seasonal ingredients.
Margaret Finds Inspiration in Belize
Margaret and Rob took a well-earned break over Easter to the small village of Placencia, Belize. Placencia was settled in the 17th century by settlers from Nova Scotia but eventually resettled by Spaniards. Mangroves, white sand beaches, and the Caribbean Sea surround the peninsula.

Recently our office assistant, Arden McKenzie climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa.
